Beach Volleyball

Talk About Rusty

Today in anticipation of possibly playing a few 4×4 beach volleyball events next year I thought I would start getting my feet sandy (literally).  Of course I thought it was such a brilliant idea to play with some of the best players in the game for my first day back.  I mean why not just plunge right in?  In my mind I know what I need to do, but my body is just a step behind.  It always amazes me how much of sport is about rhythm; your own rhythm with the game and then the rhythm with your team mates.  Needless to say I did fine, but importantly I was reminded how much I love to be outside, playing the game, and bantering with the ladies.  Something about playing makes you feel like the kid inside of you has a chance to come out and live on the outside even if it’s just for a few hours.

Volleyball is one of the outlets I use to play, but I also ride my bike, swim, and even in some of my training where you listen to loud music, jump around, sweat etc.  Yes, it can be hard work, but it can also be a heap of fun.  Find your fun outlet! Please show us your videos or send us notes on how you have fun while you are “exercising”.  Oh by the way just to give you an idea of the caliber of girls I played with; 2 time Gold Medalist  Kerri Walsh, Olympian Holly McPeak, Olympian Nicole Branagh, Rachael Wacholder, Carrie Dodd, Nancy Mason, Leanne McSorley all top players on the AVP.  Nothing like a little humble pie.  The other thing that I remind myself is to not get so caught up in how I will do or how I look.  Just get out there.

Best, Gabby
